It was an honor for Beta Lambda Lambda of Omega Psi Phi Inc. to have sponsored Snellville Middle School for the G3 Robotics Drone competition on March 16th 2019 at Grady High School.  The students and volunteers from the schools showed their hard work, preparation and dedication in competing in the drone competition with great enthusiasm.  Snellville Middle School won an Outstanding Achievement Award from the chapter for a wonderful effort in the competition.  The students were fully engaged in the STEM program competition and showed how working together as a team will help them to achieve personal and team goals in competition as well as in life.  We would like to thank all of the volunteers from Beta Lambda Lambda, the schools, parents, friends and other organizations that came out to support the students and the competition.

ABOUT BETA LAMBDA LAMBDA CHAPTER AND STEM

Technology and creative thinking make so many advances in our daily lives it’s often hard to keep up. Omega Psi Phi's Gwinnett Chapter recognizes that the support of camps, programs and museums that emphasize STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) for our youth is vital to their growth and development.

In response to this need, in 2017 Omega Psi Phi's Gwinnett Chapter implemented the STEM/STEAM program as part of several initiatives aimed at supporting today's youth and our local communities.  The program focuses on providing students in middle school and high school opportunities to participate in national competitions. The pilot program was implemented in Gwinnett County Schools which have participated in the G3 Robotics competitions each year since 2017.  In the program's inaugural year, several of our schools won various awards in the National Drone Competition.

Omega Psi Phi's Gwinnett Chapter has sponsored over 300 kids and roughly 30 teams to participate in various competitions since the program's inception.  The focus of the STEM program continues to be in providing students the opportunities to creatively express themselves in the ever so important fields of the arts, science and technology and expose them to the skills and emerging trends that continue to rapidly change business and our culture. Specifically, the Drone competitions require students to uniquely build their own drones to navigate obstacle courses, solve a problem in the community and to do a presentation that exposes them to critical thinking and the art of public speaking.

Omega Psi Phi's Gwinnett Chapter is committed to serving our community and providing more opportunities to the kids in our communities. The chapter has as its mission to continual development of camps, mentoring and leadership development opportunities in the areas of STEM/STEAM. These STEM-based camps also provide hands-on aviation experience for rising sixth-grade through 12th-grade students. Our students are exposed to careers in aviation through airport field trips and other aviation facilities, including component testing and assembly. The culminating experience will be a team build-off and a wide array of competition opportunities, where students are challenged to build, fly an aircraft they design, Robotics, and Lego projects.
